Sometimes it is better to compare the current status of the database with its state when it was performing optimally in the past by creating a baseline using pair or range of snapshots. There are three types of baselines in Oracle. 1) Fixed baseline, 2) Moving Window Baseline 3) Baseline Templates.
- A fixed baseline is captured at a single and fixed time interval in the past.
- A moving window baseline corresponds to all AWR data that exists within the AWR retention period which is by default 8 days.
- Baseline templates is used to create a baseline for contiguous time of period in the future.
